Start with the Deluxe King and keep the bay to yourself

Crown's entry room is not small. It trades a landmark for a wide stretch of water, and spends the difference on the bathroom.

Picture the evening in it

You come in from the corridor and the window takes up the far wall. Crown describes the upholstery as custom-made and taking its colours from the harbour below, which in practice means blues and greys that sit back and let the water do the work. The glass-top table by the window is where room service ends up, and with in-room dining running 24 hours, it's a fair alternative to a booked restaurant on your first night.

The bathroom is the part people remember. Dark marble, a freestanding egg-shaped bath, a walk-in rain shower and two basins. Run the bath after dinner, leave the blinds open and the room does its job.

Decide whether the bay is enough

The Deluxe King faces what Crown calls the bay. You won't see the Opera House from it, and the room page doesn't promise the bridge. What you see is open water, boats crossing and, on a clear evening, the sun going down over the horizon, which is how Crown itself puts it.

If a landmark matters, step up to the Harbour Bridge King at 50 square metres or the Opera King at 55. If space matters more than a landmark, the Studio gives you 60 square metres on the same bay side.

Use the tablet

Every Deluxe King has an in-room tablet that controls the blinds and the lights and orders in-room dining. Crown also lists individual climate control, a safe, a Nespresso machine, a personal bar and fridge, an iron and board, and complimentary internet. The bar and room service cost extra.
