Start with the names
Crown's room names carry the outlook. Bay rooms and suites: Deluxe King, Studio, Executive Suite, Premier Suite. Harbour Bridge rooms and suites: Harbour Bridge King and Twin, Executive Harbour Bridge Suite, Premier Harbour Bridge Suite, Tower Suite. Opera rooms and suites: Opera King, Opera Twin, Opera Studio, Opera Tower Suite. The detail is on our rooms page. What follows is our opinion of how each side behaves through an evening.
Take the bay for sunsets and calm
Crown's own description of the Deluxe King talks about boats crossing and the sun going down over the horizon. If you'll be in the room in the early evening, with the light low and the water busy, this is the side that changes most from minute to minute. It's also the least expensive way into the hotel. What you don't get is a landmark in the frame.
Take the bridge if you'll be up late
The bridge is the most constant thing in a Sydney night: it's lit, it carries traffic, and the ferries keep passing underneath it. If you're the kind of guest who comes back at eleven and sits by the window for an hour, a Harbour Bridge room gives you something to look at the whole time. The Harbour Bridge Twin is also the way four people share a landmark view without a suite.
Take the Opera House for the moment it lights up
The Opera House sits east, across Circular Quay. Facing it, you're looking away from the sunset, so the show is the sky going from pale to deep blue behind the sails and the lights coming up around the Quay. If you'll be in the room at dusk, this is the one. Several Opera room pages list the bridge as well.
Weigh the construction note
Several rooms on the Opera and Harbour Bridge sides carry Crown's note that construction alongside the hotel may be visible. Crown says it won't affect your view of the landmarks. In our opinion it's worth mentioning in your request, so the desk can ask for the cleanest outlook available on your dates.
Make the call
- Arriving late, leaving early, mostly asleep: the bay. Save the money for dinner.
- An anniversary, a proposal, one night that has to be right: the Opera side.
- A late-night person, or a group of four: the bridge.
Whichever you choose, keep the blinds open when you go to sleep. The harbour at 5am is a view nobody photographs and everybody remembers.
